LONDON: According to the latest analysis, the leading companies lobbying to block climate policy are ExxonMobil, Chevron, Toyota, Southern Company and Sempra, the North American energy infrastructure company headquartered in California.
In a list of 25 identified by InfluenceMap, 11 are based in the US, three in Germany, two in Canada and one in France – Air France KLM.
US oil companies on the list of the most negative and influential companies on climate include ConocoPhillips (7th), Phillips 66 (12th), Valero Energy (13th) and Occidental Petroleum (22nd).
Of the automakers, ranking third on the list is Toyota Motor that has campaigned against proposed regulations to phase out internal combustion engines in favour of electric vehicles. Joining Toyota are BMW (18th), Daimler (24th) and Hyundai (25th).
The 25 most negatively influential industry associations are lead by the American Petroleum Institute, the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, the US Chamber of Commerce, the National Mining Association (US) and BusinessEurope.
Also on the list are the US Chamber of Commerce (3rd), the California Chamber of Commerce (8th), the Federation of German Industries (9th), the International Air Transport Association (10th), National Association of Manufacturers (16th), the Japanese Business Federation (17th) and the Federation of Korean Industries (22nd).
London-based InfluenceMap launched its corporate climate lobbying platform on the eve of the Paris Agreement in 2015 in response to growing demand from investors and other stakeholders.
