BOULOGNE–BILLANCOURT, France: Renault says electric vehicles will account for 65 percent of sales by 2025 and 90 percent by 2030 in Europe. Ten years later it aims to be carbon neutral in Europe and worldwide by 2050.
The manufacturer has committed to reducing its procurement carbon footprint by focusing on six components that currently account for 90 percent: steel, aluminium, polymers, electronics, tires, and glass.
To reach a 50 percent emissions reduction in manufacturing facilities worldwide, it will invest €20 million to generate up to €90 million in savings via reduced energy bills and avoiding emission penalties.
By 2030, Renault aims to reduce its carbon footprint 30 percent per kilo of material purchased. For example its 2025 launch of its R5 sedan will be assembled in France with carbon-free energy and a battery with an emissions footprint 20 percent less than in 2020.
Meanwhile vehicle dismantling, parts recycling and remanufacturing - including batteries - is expected to generate more than €1 billion in sales by 2030.
"We consider our environmental and societal responsibility as one of the chapters of Renaulution,” declared group CEO Luca de Meo. “Our commitments to reduce our carbon footprint, to the safety of people who use our vehicles, of employees in the workplace and on inclusion, meet our strategic challenges and support value creation,” he added.
